Artéch

Innovation into HVAC Design with Artéch

The Artéch chiller combines an absolutely innovative design, made both to optimise performance and to blend harmoniously into any urban and architectural context, with great performance.

Available in twelve sizes, with cooling outputs from 6 to 180 kW, Artéch has a structure made of an entirely galvanised and varnished sheet iron beam system and a work panel made of fibreglass. There is a wide range of Artéch colour schemes in order to provide a harmonious placement in any urban architectural HVAC setting.

There is an extremely innovative design along with an extremely advanced technology: Artéch works with a R410A ecological condenser and scroll compressors with inverters to obtain maximum energy efficiency with minimum environmental impact. But that’s not all: Artéch is also equipped with a touch-screen user interface which offers immediate control of visualization and continuous monitoring of all functioning parameters.

The innovative technological content also encompasses maintenance: by pressing just one key, you are able to open the rear panel allowing easy access to all internal parts.

Gianni Renna goes on to explain Artéch produce a wide range of multifunction heat pump systems design for a large range of outside amb. temp. up to -40*C and water temp. up to 90*C.

Multifunction system means to produce at same time chilled water or hot water for terminals and hot sanitary water.
Of course the products are also available in heating and sanitary water versions.

Several families’ products are available according the climate areas in fact we have multifunction system with R410 or R134a or double cycle R410+R134a like Duo and CO2 Heat pump ECO2 with cop of 5.2 and HSW up to 90*C.
Duo is our key product working like a boilers with a heating capacity independent from the outside temerature and up to -40*C and HSW up to 80*C.

HVAC Technical Institute

HVAC Technical Institute

With this kind of invitation why not take a look at a career in the Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning industry.HVAC Technical Institute invites you to tour our facility; or even sit in for the day in one of our on-going classes. Our small class sizes of 12-20 students makes you a member, not a number.

Facility HVAC Technical Institute is located just 5 minutes from Midway Airport: 4532 S. Kolin Avenue (2nd Floor), Chicago IL 60632. At HVAC Technical Institute, the emphasis is hands-on training. Our facility of 17,500 square feet is comprised of 7,500 square feet of classroom and office space and 10,000 square feet of lab and shop area.
Class Size HVAC Technical Institute believes, based on previous experience that every student progresses at different rates. Therefore, we limit the class size to 20 students. Since on-the-job training is so vital to our students, we typically have 1 instructor for every 20 students, thereby assuring each student the optimal personal instruction.
Tutoring Policy Due to the fact that our institution trains individuals based on the “hands-on” method, we strive that every student understands the material clearly and thoroughly. Unfortunately, not all students learn in the same way, and some may have difficulty understanding everything that is taught during class. Therefore all students have the right and privilege to obtain one-on-one tutoring. As a student, your duty is to schedule an appointment to receive additional assistance/tutoring.

Repetition Privileges All HVAC Technical Institute graduates may return to repeat or reinforce a needed portion of previously completed programs. There is no additional tuition charges unless books/supplies and tool kits need to be purchased; all graduates are welcome to this benefit. All students taking advantage of the repetition privilege must follow the attendance policy. All those failing to adhere to those policies will lose repetition privileges for the future. An additional value-added privilege is that graduates may use the school’s sheet metal shop. For all available privileges, students must arrange scheduling with the school director and must be paid up to date.

HVAC Insurance Claims

HVAC Insurance Claims

,

“Our research found that the average claim submitted to insurance companies was the result of a homeowner being told by an HVAC company that their unit was in need of a full replacement, when in actuality, a minor repair would bring the system back to pre-loss condition,” Stafford said. “It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy … homeowners experience an issue, contact a local HVAC contractor, and in turn unknowingly file a fraudulent claim. That, in essence, is how the game has worked for the past 30 years.”

That growth will be fueled, in part, by an increasing need for more claim assessments, Stafford said. Indeed, a study this past summer revealed that insurance claims submitted for damaged HVAC units were overpaid by 65 percent in 2011.

Insurance fraud is the second most costly white-collar crime — after tax evasion — in the United States, totaling more than $29 billion each year, according to the Insurance Information Institute, a New York-based organization aimed at helping the public understand insurance issues.

The HVAC industry has many variables and with new measures things could be better for the industry as a whole.

Insurance just as in any other industry has a direct refflection to the costs the end consumer pays for installation of their HVAC unit.

At GasFitter we feel a more hands on approach will help create systems that will keep costs in line.

ECM Blower Motor for your Furnace

This is a close look at how most ECM furnace motors save you money and energy while increasing efficiency.

Your new high efficiency furnace today will work similar to this example.

Converting to more energy efficicent motors and burners will save money in a very short period of time. Not too mention it makes your home or business more comfortable becasue they push air at a lower speed and deliver the air at a smoother rate.

When you replace an old furnace for a new high efficiency furnace
it will also match the flame size to deliver a more even heat at a continous rate that provides a more comfortable system than thise in the past. No more heat on heat of with older furnaces that seem to go on and off making noise and creating cold zones in your home or business.

Geothermal Future In Cities

Geothermal Future In Cities

Officials from schools and towns all over the country have been traveling to Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., to look at, well, nothing. The school is halfway through the construction of the largest geothermal district heating and cooling system in the country. By the time it’s done, the system will heat and cool the entire campus, completely replacing the university’s ancient coal-fired boilers, and it will serve as one of the best testaments yet to the promise that larger communities – even whole towns and one day cities – could go geothermal in the future as well.

For anyone who wants to travel to central Indiana to see all of this in action, though, the sight is somewhat less impressive than the technology beneath it.

“When universities call, or other entities call and want to come in and look at our system, I have to first tell them, ‘well, there’s not a whole lot you’re going to see except for the building where we have our heat pump chillers, because everything is buried,’” says Jim Lowe, the university’s director of engineering, construction and operations. “There’s nothing to see.”

By the time the project is completed – hopefully, with additional funding, in the next three years – Ball State will have drilled 4,000 holes into its campus, each 400 feet deep and six inches in diameter to thread closed-loop piping that circulates water underground, utilizing the earth itself as a natural heat exchanger. The first 1,800 boreholes were dug under an intramural sports field and a parking lot.

“Two years from now,” Lowe says, “a new student coming to campus, out there to play softball, may not know they’re playing softball above our geothermal field. You wouldn’t know that. It’s literally buried.”

This is basically the one requirement to replicate the project elsewhere, or on a larger scale: open space. Geothermal systems could heat and cool buildings and towns for years into the future, replacing fossil-fuel burning alternatives for a huge reduction in carbon emissions, but you can’t build on top of the underground infrastructure once it’s in place. At Ball State, that parking lot will indefinitely remain some kind of parking lot, and that rec field will likely forever be available for softball games.

Just about any community, though, with a sizable central park (or a scattering of protected open spaces) could attempt this. The system circulates water through the ground, but doesn’t draw on ground water, so the technology isn’t limited to places with ground water to spare.

At Ball State, the whole project is estimated to cost about $80 million – only about $10-$15 million more than the next generation of replacement boilers would have cost. When it finally comes together, the school will save $2 million a year on fuel and utility costs.

“And it’s a forever $2 million savings,” Lowe says.

The school will also wipe out the 85,000 annual tons of carbon dioxide its boilers were emitting, cutting its carbon footprint in half (and cutting out the need to ever comply with EPA regulations on coal-fired boilers again). To be fair, Lowe says, the geothermal system requires some electricity to run, so the net impact will be about 75,000 tons of carbon dioxide avoided. The completed project will heat and cool about 45 buildings, the first of which began to receive water from the system just after Thanksgiving.

“We’ve not found [a system] any larger,” Lowe says. “Will there be one in the future? That could be. That’s OK, because we hope others are learning form this.”

Even the city of Toronto, he says, has called.

“You could capitalize on the fact that you have some municipality that has a large rec field that’s for public use,” he says. “It’s only limited by the territory, by the amount of square footage you can find to install these boreholes.”

And we know most cities have underutilized land lying around that could be put to just this use.

Geothermal Cost Benefits

Geothermal Heating & Cooling Experts Oshawa

Geothermal Heating & Cooling Experts Oshawa

One of the main reasons that so many people dismiss the idea of using geothermal energy in their homes is because they think it is simply too expensive. This is actually a common misconception, and many people can actually save a lot of money by switching to geothermal home heating and cooling Oshawa.

Of course, this type of system does not come free. The truth is that a geothermal heat pump system is quite inexpensive to operate, but it will cost you a considerable amount to have it installed. It is also important that you have your geothermal system installed by a professional with experience working with this type of equipment so that you can be sure it is done right.

Advantage Airtech Heating & Air Conditioning has been installing geothermal heat pumps for customers all over the Eastern Toronto area for years. We can carry out any type of installation you need, and we will do it for a reasonable price and within a reasonable amount of time. The installation of a geothermal home heating and cooling system is more involved, but there are substantial cost benefits to be had in the end.

Year Round Comfort
One benefit of having a geothermal system installed is that it is the only home comfort system you will need. While its name might suggest otherwise, a geothermal heat pump can both warm and cool your house effectively, meaning that you will not need to invest in any type of air conditioning system to compliment it. Once your geothermal heat pump is in place, you will be assured a comfortable indoor environment all year long.

Energy Efficiency
Geothermal heat pumps are also very energy efficient. Because they do not actually have to generate heat, they can run on very little electricity. While the actual amount that you will save annually by switching to geothermal power will vary depending on what you were paying before, you will be hard pressed to find any type of home heating and cooling that is cheaper.

When you use geothermal energy, you are depending on an energy source that you, quite literally, do not have to pay for. The heat that your geothermal system gathers is continually returned to the soil by the sun and by heat radiating out from the Earth’s core. That means that you will not have to pay for any of that heat creation, and that you are doing something beneficial for the environment in the process.

Long Lasting
Compared to many of the more traditional home heating systems, geothermal heat pumps are remarkably long lasting. While a typical furnace may last you somewhere between 15 and 20 years, the pipes installed with a geothermal heat pump will be good for upwards of 50 years or more. Basically, that means that you will probably never have to worry about replacing your home heating and cooling system again when you switch to geothermal power. And that makes your initial investment seem even more reasonable.

Greater Toronto Area Duct and Ventilation

ductwork and ventilation materials

ductwork and ventilation materials

Most people might think the most important part of their home comfort system is the furnace, heat pump, or air conditioner. But the main flow of conditioned air runs through a network of ducts that transfer the air from your comfort system to the rooms of your home or building. Without the ductwork, you would never be comfortable.
That’s why you should always choose duct experts that can install your ductwork correctly so the flow of air to and from the comfort system provide a balanced system. Gas Fitter Heating & Cooling has years of experience installing, repairing, and servicing ductwork throughout the Greater Toronto Area(GTA). Our HVAC technicians will not only get your ductwork to work properly to match the load requirements of your comfort system as to create the most efficient system.

Duct Installation

If your building a home and installing ductwork, you’ll need a layout and design completed to ensure equilibrium with your air flow. If you are retro fitting to an existing home this is a much more complex process. Taking into account the placement of electrical wires, insulation, and load bearing walls. No matter what stage you are in having proper circulation of air is important. Air within the structor needs to be balanced, meaning when you have air going into a room it must be replacing air that is going back into your comfort system to match it’s volume. It is highly recommended that you call a professional to ensure you have balanced heat distribution.

Toronto Duct Replacement

Toronto Ductwork is sturdy and should last for many many years, however it doesn’t last forever. Eventually (30-60years), you may notice a drop off in the efficiency of your homes heating and cooling system. The upstairs temperature may not match the downstairs temperature. This is a l tell tale sign that there is a problem in your ductwork.
Most of the time, issues like these can be fixed with careful cleaning. But many times the joints to the ductwork need to be resealed. Depending on the age of the house sometimes they may need to be replaced. You can only be sure after careful diagnostics are performed. WIth a Pitot Tube Assembly we can determine Flow Velocity. Measuring the Velocity Pressure in the duct with a Pitot Tube Assembly connected to a differential pressure sensor. The Pitot Tube Assembly includes a Static Pressure Probe and a Total Pressure Probe.by a professional to check for holes, worn areas and gaps in the joints.

Toronto Ductwork Experts

Working on ducts and ventilation systems is something a trained HVAC technician should handle. If you’re interested in having new ducts installed. call a Gas Fitter HVAC technician for a free in house estimate. For years we’ve provided the very best in duct installation to homeowners across the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario area and we’d be happy to help you with yours as well.
After obtaining the Flow Velocity from the previous procedure, that figure is now multiplied by the Duct Cross Sectional Area to determine the Air Flow in CFM.
There are two different equations for determining the Duct Cross Sectional Area, one for round ducts and one for square or rectangular ducts.
Determining Duct Cross Sectional Area
The Flow Velocity is then determined with the following equation: V = 4005 x Sqrt(ΔP)
V = Flow Velocity in feet per minute. Sqrt() = Square root of the number in the parenthesis. ΔP = The Velocity Pressure measured by the pressure sensor
Example: Measuring a Velocity Pressure of .75” W.C. equals a Flow Velocity of 3,468 Ft/Min. V = 4005 x Sqrt(0.75)
Sqrt(0.75) = 0.866 • 4005 x 0.866 = 3,468 • Flow Velocity = 3,468 Ft/Min

The equation for a round duct is: A = π x r2
A = Duct Cross Sectional Area π = 3.14159 r = radius of duct in feet
The equation for square or rectangular ducts is: A = X x Y
A = Duct Cross Sectional Area X = Duct height in feet Y = Duct width in feet.
Example: An 18” diameter round duct has a Duct Cross Sectional Area of 1.77 Ft2 A=πx r2 or A=3.14158x .5625
18” diameter is 1.5 feet, therefore the radius is .75 feet • r2 = 0.752 = 0.5265 • π = 3.14159 A = 3.14159 x 0.5625 = 1.77 Ft2
After obtaining the Flow Velocity and the Duct Cross Sectional Area from the previous two procedures, the Air Flow in CFM is determined by multiplying the two:
Air Flow in CFM (Q) = Flow Velocity in Feet Per Minute (V) x Duct Cross Sectional Area (A) Example
An 18” diameter round duct with a Velocity Pressure of .75” W.C. has an Air Flow of 6,128 CFM
The Flow Velocity is 3,468 Ft/Min. V = 4005 x Sqrt(ΔP)
V = 4005 x Sqrt(0.75) Sqrt(0.75) = 0.866 • 4005 x 0.866 = 3,468 • Flow Velocity = 3,468 Ft/Min
The Duct Cross Sectional Area is 1.65 Ft2 A = π x r2
π = 3.14159 • r2 = 0.752 = 0.5625 Duct Cross Sectional Area (A) = 3.14159 x 0.5625 = 1.77 Ft2
The Air Flow in CFM is 6,128 Ft3/Min Air Flow in CFM (Q) = Flow Velocity in Feet Per Minute (V) x Duct Cross Sectional Area (A) Air Flow in CFM (Q) = 3,468 Ft/Min x 1.77 Ft2 = 6,128 CFM
If you have any questions about this procedure, please call your BAPI representative.

Steelcare Plant 19 demon- strates exceptional energy saving design, resulting in 56% better performance than the Model National Energy Code for Buildings through: • upgraded building envelope • occupancy sensors and lowered light- ing power densities • infrared natural gas tube heaters and heat recovery ventilators • fulfillment of all LEED® renewable energy points with a solar air preheat system • temperature and humidity sensors throughout the building linked to a programmable manager “We have been very pleased with the performance of the SRP products and as we move forward with other Green Build Projects I certainly would not hesitate to specify SRP heaters. There is no question about it, Green will only become more demanding as companies come up to this level. Innovation will drive it further. A perfect example would be using wireless technology to fire individual heaters instead of operating in groups as we currently do. The beauty isn’t only contained in the environmental footprint – when you monetarize the energy requirement the savings are wonderful also,” said Bob Edwards, P.Eng., VP, Green Age Design. Green Age Design is a member of the Carego Group. Superior Radiant Products manufactures a full range of gas-fired, high and low intensity infrared space heating equipment for the commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential markets, sold internationally. Working with their customers, realizing what their goals are and then delivering the solution has enabled SRP to become a infrared heat industry leader.

If the heating industry is a sleeping giant for the green movement amongst home owners and building developers. Developers or going more and more to central production boilers and heat pumps. These heat distribution via grids can only be part of a full pack of measures. We must keep addressing heat recovery and energy efficiency even on a small-scale. Efficient production of these Heating & Cooling systems or hybrid heat pumps that use technology to transform waste and ambient energy, to a useful level of recovered energy. Heat pumps can be employed as individual installations and connected to energy grids, or work with a high efficient gas furnace back up. They make our energy infrastructure more efficient, hydro electric is taking a toll and if we can make our energy more point of use we will be much further ahead, and there is a significant savings on the energy perspective.

HELP FOR HOMEOWNERS

  • Tougher new building code regulations kick in across Ontario Jan. 1, 2012, meaning new homes will have to be meet an upgrade of 25-30% in energy efficiencyor homebuilders “won’t be able to get an occupancy permit,” says Ron Salisbury, of Ron Salisbury Consulting in London.

  • The Ontario Home Energy Savings Program can help defray the cost of an energy audit which is a necessary first step in accessing government grants and rebates. The Ontario and federal governments have programs that can provide up to $10,000 in rebates for upgraded windows, doors, insulation, water heaters and more. Information can be obtained on the Internet by accessing energy for details of by calling the Ontario Energy and Infrastructure Ministry toll-free at 1-888-668-4636.“The amount of rebates varies depending on the level of energy saving achieved,” says Zoltan Balough.Paul Gagliardi says a thorough home energy audit costs $300 (of which an Ontario government will cover half) for the first visit of two to 2.5 hours and $150 for a second, 30-minute follow-up visit. He says requests for audits have dropped off 50% from two years ago following cuts in Ontario grants and imposition of a March 31, 2010, deadline on federal funding.

  • Information on federal programs can be obtained from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. Internet users can download a CMHCfact sheets called the Home Maintenance Schedule and Renovating for Energy at or by calling, toll-free, 1-800-668-2642. Meanwhile, the federal government has approved an extension of a grant for home retrofits – up to $5,000 per homeowner. Reintroduced in July, the program earmarks $400 million to make their homes more energy efficient, replace furnaces, install geothermal heating and cooling, insulate attics and upgrade hot-water equipment, among other things. Work has to be completed by March 31, 2012. To register, go to or call 1-800-622- 6232.

Vancouver Ventialation & Ductwork

Vancouver Ventialation & Ductwork

Types of Ductwork for Ventilation

There has been a great deal of focus on upgrading to more energy efficient home heating and cooling systems. This is definitely an excellent way to reduce your carbon foot print, your home comfort system should also be matched to a proper ventilation system. Cold air from air conditioning systems needs a larger volume of air to be carried through the duct system.
The different types of ductwork should be considered upon the design of the building structor. Two of the most common types of ductwork are aluminum and flexible duct. Flex duct can be installed into tighter spaces and bend around obstructions like pipeing or floor joists, Flex duct is usually used in T-BAR ceilings applications. Flexible ductwork is also typically less expensive to install but cost more to purchase. Our Greater Vancouver Area HVAC technicians and duct installers will of course suggest the type most suited for your build needs.
The ductwork in your home is very important to the comfort and performance of your comfort system. It keeps warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Your duct system provides fresh air cycled throughout your home or office. In many cases a air purification system can be added for a benefit for health concerns. Adding an Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC) can help reduce the causes of irritation from asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

How Ducting Works

Forced air heating or cooling in your home or building uses two sets of ducts to complete that system. The supply duct runs, transfer the heated or cooled air to the various areas of your home or building. The other ducts, are the return ducts, these ducts balance the ventilation system. Without return air ducts to each room there is supply you would not have a balanced system. The air from each room is then transferred back to the central air handler (furnace)where it can be filtered, heated or cooled again, and recirculated.
When creating this comfort system it is important to match the volume of air to its load requirements for furnace Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM). When matched correctly you will get the most comfort environment to live or work in. We serve the great Vancouver area with HVAC technicians trained in forced air guidelines to ensure comfort and peace of mind.
We Serve Vancouver North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Chilliwack, Langley, Abbotsford, Richmond, Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Burnaby, Aldergrove, White Rock, Mission, Pitt Meadows, Port Moody,

US market to hydrocarbon refrigerants

US market to hydrocarbon refrigerants

Ben and Jerry’s to pave the way to a better environment.

EPA Approves Three Alternative Refrigerants to Replace Hydrofluorocarbons in Commercial and Household Freezers/First time that hydrocarbon substitutes will be widely used in the U.S.

Release Date: 12/14/2011
Contact Information: Cathy Milbourn milbourn.cathy@epa.gov 202-564-7849 202-564-4355

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has added three hydrocarbons as acceptable alternatives in household and small commercial refrigerators and freezers through EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program. EPA took action after requests from Ben and Jerry’s and General Electric, as well as A.S. Trust & Holdings, and True Manufacturing, a family-owned small business. These businesses are helping to clear the way for U.S. companies to use ozone layer-protective hydrocarbon refrigerants.

“Today’s action is a great example of how businesses and EPA can work together to protect our planet and drive innovation,” said Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. “This action increases the options for effective, climate-friendly refrigerants in the U.S.”

Under the Clean Air Act, the SNAP program evaluates substitute chemicals and technologies for ozone-depleting substances (ODS). The three hydrocarbon refrigerants approved as acceptable substitutes, with use conditions, are propane, isobutane, and a chemical known as R-441A. These newly-approved refrigerants can be used to replace ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-12 and hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-22 in household refrigerators, freezers, combination refrigerator-freezers, and commercial stand-alone units. SNAP is unique and globally recognized as the only program designed specifically to evaluate substitutes for ODS and to focus on the industrial sectors that use them.

Replacing older refrigerants will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 600,000 metric tons by 2020, equal to the emissions from the annual electricity use of nearly 75,000 homes, and will help protect people’s health and the environment.

At the recent 23rd Meeting of the Montreal

Protocol Parties, EPA and the U.S. Department of State announced that 108 countries signed a declaration to address hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). While HFCs are ODS substitutes, they are increasingly contributing to climate change. The approval of hydrocarbons in the U.S. is significant because hydrocarbons are more environmentally-friendly substitutes than HFCs.

Common Questions Asked Concerning Furnaces…

What needs to be done ahead of time before turning your furnace on in the winter?

  • Before turning on your furnace, you would want to have a licensed contractor service and clean your furnace. Because, they will ensure that it is running at peak efficiency. With it running at peak efficiency, you will reduce your heating costs throughout the winter.

What is a good temperature to set the thermostat at in the winter?

  • During the fall and winter, the thermostat should be set around 68 degrees. One thing that should always come to mind is that for every degree you will save your heating costs by 3-5 percent.

What if you are just watching TV in the living room, does the whole house need to be heated?

  • No, you shouldn’t be heating the whole house. So, what can be done is lowering your thermostat by about 4 degrees and then just use a space heater to reach your comfort level as you watch TV.

By ultimately following these rules of thumb, your chances of saving money on your heating bill is very high.

Generac Standby Generator | Midland | Installation

Generac Standby Generator | Midland | Installation

More and more people today are concerned about emergency power. And a portable generator can supply that, but it can only backup the things that are plugged directly into the generator. On the other hand, a Generac automatic standby generator powers entire circuits and everything on them. For example, if you choose to backup the family room the generator will power the TV, stereo, ceiling fans, and lights. Select the kitchen, and you’ll be able to use your stove, refrigerator, microwave, over-head lights, and all of the outlets. Plus, a Generac automatic standby unit is on the job 24/7. Just like a central air conditioner, the generator works automatically when you need it and shuts off when you don’t. It constantly monitors the utility, so when the power goes out the generator starts itself and delivers power to your home in seconds. When the utility is back online, the generator shuts itself off until the next outage. It runs off your homes existing natural gas or LP fuel supply. So unlike you portable generator, it never needs to be refueled. Once a week, it will automatically run a brief self-test to ensure that everything is working properly when you need it. With the Generac standby generator, you can enjoy peace of mind and never feel powerless knowing that your home and family are protected even when you’re not there. Generac Standby Generator

York Furnaces | Quiet By Design

Quiet operation is designed into all York home comfort products. That’s one of the main reasons to install york equipment. Yorks heat pumps and air conditioners are some of the quietest in the industry. Yorks affinity units features quiet drive technology. Quiet drive technology includes a composite base pan to absorb annoying vibrations, whisper quiet forard swept fan blades, isolated and insulated compressor housing, a two stage scroll compressor, and quiet airflow design. York furnaces and air handlers are also quiet by design.

They have some extra features that you can add to make them even quieter. Climatrak, variable speed fan operation, slowly increases airflow to the needed level. So, these gradual starts eliminate duct noises and popping. York’s high efficiency furnaces offer a sealed burner compartment to silence the sounds of combustion. Two-stage and modulating models, further reduce sound levels by operating, most often, at the lowest settings.  Sealed gasketed doors and insulated cabinets, keep sound inside the units housing – not in your home. But even quiet York equipment will make noise if it isn’t installed properly.

Geothermal – Saving Energy and Money

Geothermal – Saving Energy and Money

Imagine if we had free renewable energy…to provide cool air for the summer, heating for the winter, and hot water all year round. A lot of people will say there is and its called the sun.

What this is called is geothermal.

Two thirds of a typical homeowner’s energy bill is from heating, cooling & hot water. The rest is for lighting, appliances and other usage. This means the biggest potential for savings comes from your heating & cooling system. A geothermal heat pump, taps into the renewable storable energy stored in the ground. Which provides saving of up to 70% on utility bills. Although it acts similarly to a standard heat pump, a geothermal heat pump exchanges heat with the earth instead of the outdoor air. Outdoor air temperatures can vary greatly from day to night, while the temperature just a few feet below ground stays an average 55 Degrees to 70 Degrees Fahrenheit year round.

This is important. In order to cool your home, an ordinary system collects indoor heat and expels it outside. Unfortunately, summer temperatures summer temperatures can easily hit 90 to 100 degrees, which means outdoor air is already filled with heat and is less willing to accept more. The exchange process becomes harder and harder. The result is that an ordinary heat pump or air conditioner becomes least efficient when you need it to be the most efficient. A geothermal unit never sees outdoor temperature fluctuations. It collects heat from your home and moves it to the much cooler 55 degree earth. It doesn’t matter how much outdoor conditions fluctuate, the ground remains constant. This is why a geothermal unit is more than twice as efficient at cooling than any regular heat pump or air conditioner.

Napoleon 9600 Series

Napoleon 9600 Series

The 9600 series is the smallest and one of the most efficient furnaces on the market. With its two stage design, it provides comfort to your home. With is whisper quiet blower, you wont even know its there. Its energy star rated, which qualifies for federal rebates and features an ECM motor that saves you up to 80% on your electricity bill compared to a single speed motor.

What sets the 9600 apart from the competition?

  • Completely sealed and insulated cabinet, which isolates any noise from the surrounding area.
  • A patented SureView burner system window that allows a unique view of the flames and operation, which is a reassuring feature and also a first in the industry.
  • The variable speed ECM motor ramps up and down very slowly for ultimate comfort. So, you don’t get a sudden rush of air on the initial start up.

Because the ECM motor uses very low electricity, you can run the fan constantly throughout the entire year. This will circulate the air and eliminate hot and cold spots to give you ideal comfort.

The patented heat exchanger is the heart of the system. It features a tubular 3 pass primary heat exchanger that insures reliability and efficiency. With a vortex turbulator that super charges the heated gases for maximum efficiency. The forced air totally surrounds the heat exchanger encased in a sealed and insulated cabinet, which extracts the maximum amount of heat available. When the flu gases come through, they get disrupted by the turbulator that makes the flu gases go around and mixes up the flu gases insuring more efficiency on the furnace.

The secondary heat exchanger is made from commercial grade stainless steel for years of trouble free use. It is also backed by a life time warranty for your piece of mind. The clear condensate cover, coming from the secondary heat exchanger, allows you to see the water condensation being extracted from the flu gases. The silicone nitrate ignited ensures trouble free start ups and saves fuel over old inefficient standing pilots. The ideal comfort 2 stage control system is the brain of the furnace. It controls the entire operation to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.

The totally sealed cabinet has thermal and acoustic insulation for superior sound suppression and whisper quiet operations. Each piece of the heavy gauge steel cabinet is individually powder coated in the manufacturing process for corrosion resistance and no sharp edges. Most furnaces are sized according to the largest input. So, a two stage furnace will give you more comfort, it’ll run longer, its more efficient on the low stage, and it will also give you the ability to move a lot more air around the house and makes sure all the air is heated evenly. Overall, it basically give you all around comfort

Well I have rummaged in the dust and this is about all I could find. Looks like back in the day they had fishing on their minds a lot, as you will note that the trucks in both pictures had boats on them. The small lady talking to Lady Diana is Mrs. J. Walsh of the original J. Walsh and Sons. The man with his back to the camera is Jim Walsh, the founder of the company, and the mayor of Kamloops at the time. The bearded man to the left is Claude Richmond, MLA for Kamloops at the time. The picture was taken in Kamloops at a dedication of the Princess Diana Rose Garden in Riverside Park. It was evidently the highlight of Mary Walsh’s lifeJ. Walsh & Sons Family HVAC company in Kamloops.

Because it is impossible to see, taste or smell the toxic fumes, CO can kill you before you are aware it is in your home. At lower levels of exposure, CO causes mild effects that are often mistaken for the flu. These symptoms include headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea and fatigue. The effects of CO exposure can vary greatly from person to person depending on age, overall health and the concentration and length of exposure.

I watch my brother fall a sleep in mid sentence from a barbecue with in 3 feet of a door spilling CO2.
He was in the path of the fumes while I was not. He fell a sleep while telling a story and started to snore in seconds. He then woke up and went up stairs to sleep. After checking on him when I came downstairs to see the other guy that was standing in the path of the exhaust also feeling sick and week.

If we were in the next room we would have all feel asleep for good.
‘it is instant, You can not tell it is happening to you, you can not smell it, taste it or other’ Please keep a monitor close to your appliances.
Keep heaters and Barbecues and anything else that needs to vent gas products outside more than 5 feet from a window or a door. If your exhaust fan to your gas range does not work DO NOT USE IT AS A SOURCE OF HEAT.

More information about the Carbon Monoxide Safety Act.

Carbon Monoxide In An Occupied Space Reactions to various levels of CO will differ from one person to another, but the following concentrations and symptoms are typical. Small children, older people and people suffering from respiratory problems will show symptoms faster and at lower levels. These CO level symptoms are typical for healthy adults only.

1-9 ppm   Maximum allowable short term exposure in a living area.
10-34 ppm   Considered normal from traffic or an invented stove, but testing should be done to identify the source of the CO and correct it. Long-term exposure to low levels cause far more damage than the few well publicized effects of high-level exposure.
35 ppm   The maximum allowable concentration allowable for an 8-hour period per OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
36-99 ppm   Turn off all gas appliances and open windows. Infant deaths have been recorded at these levels.
100 ppm   Discontinue testing and Contact 911. CO levels can increase very rapidly causing extremely unsafe conditions
200 ppm   Will produce headache, tiredness, dizziness and nausea after 2-3 hours.
800 ppm   Will cause unconsciousness in less than 2 hours, and death in 2-3 hours.
1,600 ppm   Will cause death in 1 hour, symptoms will appear immediately
12,800 ppm   Will cause death in 1-3 minutes

Protection for all age groups and situations, especially infants, babies, the elderly, and highly sensitive or ill people. Other monitors barely provide minimal protection for healthy adults.

CO2 alarms should offers these functions for Protection:
Continuous Scan™ mode let’s you know monitor is checking for CO – 24/7
Digital display shows CO levels of 5ppm or higher
Low Alarm – 15 ppm – audible & visual every 8 seconds
High Alarm – 35 ppm – audible & visual every 4 seconds
Crisis Alarm – 70+ ppm – audible & visual every 2 seconds
5-minute “Hush” button for levels below 70 ppm
Designed for wall installation or tabletop use
Replaceable 9V battery ensures operation even when power is out
3-Year limited Warranty

Parts Per Million Not an initial concern but watch it, may have some affect on asthma patients.

15 ppm Not considered normal, you need to call Elkhorn to investigate what is causing these levels. The CO levels could increase rapidly. Low-level CO over an extended period of time may cause serious permanent physical or mental damage.

35 – 70 ppm Excessive Levels, recommend opening windows and ventilating building. Call Elkhorn now! Leave the building until proper repairs have been made. May become dangerous immediately.
